Because earthquakes are caused by concentrated belts. The concentrated belts are on the lines of where the plate tectonics boundaries seperated. (When earth's land started to split apart.) These are in places where 2 plates are pushing forward, pulling back, or sliding past each other. Strain builds up along the plate's boundaries. When the strain becomes too great, earthquakes accure. These areas are also where heat flow are. Motlen rock moves upward to Earths surface, causing volcanic activity.
