There are three possible characteristics to a materials reflectivity, which are all due to the orientation of its molecules:
Transparent - light travels through the material
Reflective - light is redirected away from the material
Opaque - light is absorbed by the material
Foil absorbing light means it is opaque because that is the definition of the term.
It means you can't see through it.
Endothermic - is something that absorbs heat.
The meaning of Opaque differs depending on what you use it for but below are several definitions of what opaque means.. not transparent or translucent: impervious to light, so that images cannot be seen through it2. not shiny: dull and without luster3. hard to understand: obscure and unintelligible in meaning4. physics impenetrable by radiation: impenetrable by a specific form of radiation
If something is clear, the light simply passes through the object. If something is white the light is all reflected, black it is all absorbed, clear, it would pass through. (White) |<---> |<---> (Black) |<---- |<---- (Clear) <---|<--- <---|<---
By "White" I must assume you mean "Clear" otherwise the pane of glass would be opaque. A lens must have some curvature in order to focus light. A flat pane surface does not. The light may be bent on passing through the material, but will not be bent to a focal point, as would a lens.
Opaque.
An object is opaque when it absorbs or reflects light, and does not transmit the light through itself. And object is transparent or translucent if it transmits some or all of the light through itself.
a dark hole in space
Opaque means that neither light nor images can pass through the object. Translucent means that only light can pass through the object.
Basically it means it's not transparent (see through) but it will allow light to pass. Think of holding a piece of wax paper up and looking at light through it.That's Opaque.
No it means, 'Impenetrable by light - neither transparent nor translucent.'
it means where an object doesn't reflect because it has absorbed the light.
It means its not transparent. Light cannot pass through it. When something is opaque, you can't see through it. It also can mean that the object does not reflect light, an object without luster. Here are some materials that light can't travel through: a teddy bear, wood, computers and some clay.
Opaque refers to the opacity of a substance, that is, its ability to reflect or disperse light. An object with high opacity does not allow a large amount of light through whereas an object with low opacity does. Also, different substances may have different opacities to different wavelengths of light.
Transluscent means that only a litte light can pass through. It is not opaque and not transparent. It lies somewhere in the middle.
Octisalate a substituted salicylate that absorbs ultraviolet light in the UVB range, it is used as a sunscreen.
It means light can pass though, but is diffused in the process. This refers to opaque materials that allows light through, but you cannot see through it; such as smoked glass.
