Crawl under and have a look. If you can see it dripping or see the stain after you've parked somewhere it should be rather easy to find the leak. Common causes: steel line leaks (rotten), bad connections ("O" rings, clamps), corrosion under tank straps.
Check and tighten all fittings Check fuel lines and tank for signs of leak
I need info on replacing a fuel filter in the carb of a 1985 GM jimmy 4 wheel drive
Ensure that the fuel Pump is PRIMED and also that the electical connections are good to it. If all is good there, check for a kink/leak across the lines.
Where is the leak from? The fuel filler? The fuel tank? A fuel line? Does the leak occur only when the engine is running? Does the leak only occur when the vehicle is parked on an inclined surface?
Could be either. Start with replacing the filter then if it still has trouble do a fuel pump pressure and leak down test.
There is a fair amount of fuel that will leak when changing the filter.

There are several things that can cause your fuel tank to leak. The most common cause is a hole in the fuel tank. A loose fuel line can cause the fuel tank to leak.
Depends on where the leak is.
