Earth is held in its orbit by the mass of the sun. This mass creates a gravitational pull on the earth that does not allow it to escape its orbit. all things in the universe exert gravitational force, even us on an extremely small scale. Small enough that we can experience any affects from it. The larger the mass the more gravitational force it will create. Also the speed the earth is moving will keep the distance from the sun. If the earth was to stop revolving around the sun and just stop and stay still in space, the suns gravity would pull the earth into it, obviously destroying it. The earths momentum keeps its distance from he sun and the suns gravity keeps the earth from moving further away. It is a balancing act, two forces working against each other to keep the status quo. The earth wants to move away but the sun won let it.

According to Einstein, The mass of an object will bend and warp space-time around it. Its like this - have 4 people hold out a large blanket in the air. Looks straight, even. Now Put a Bowling bowl in the middle. It will make a large depression around the ball. This represents the gravitational effect on space-time. Now put a Baseball in the mix. You will see the baseball be attracted to the bowling ball. This represents gravitational force or pull.

Why doesnt the gas on a gas giant planet escape into space?

For the same reason that our atmosphere on Earth does not escape into space - gravity.

Gas particles in the Earth's atmosphere most easily escape from?

Gas particles in the Earth's atmosphere most easily escape from the exosphere, the outermost layer of the atmosphere. The exosphere is where the gases are much less dense, and particles can gain enough kinetic energy to overcome Earth's gravitational pull and escape into space. This process is known as atmospheric escape.

Why can gases such as helium escape the earth's atmosphere?

because earth has gas particles that can let helium go

There is no atmosphere on the moon. Explain on the basis of escape velocity?

The moon's escape velocity is lower than the average velocity of gas particles in its atmosphere, so the moon cannot retain an atmosphere as the gas particles would escape into space. This is why the moon has no significant atmosphere.

Why is thermal escape of atmospheric gas much easier from the Moon than from Earth?

Thermal escape of atmospheric gas is much easier from the Moon than from Earth because the Moon has a much weaker gravitational force, which means that gas particles can escape more easily. Additionally, the Moon lacks a magnetic field to protect its atmosphere from being stripped away by solar wind and radiation.

Which gas can escape from earth's gravity?

Helium and hydrogen gases are light enough to escape Earth's gravity, although this process occurs very slowly. On the other hand, heavier gases like oxygen and nitrogen are retained in Earth's atmosphere due to their higher mass.

When was Escape from Earth created?

Escape from Earth was created in 2005.

Why doesn't the gas on a gas gaint escape into space?

because it is strong enough to hold its place on the plants of gas and because it would fall in to the EARTH and you would die and because your moms gas doesn't float

Why are helium and the free hydrogen very rare on earth?

Too light and too close to the 1/6 rule in escape speed from earth's gravity. A gas must be withing 1/6 of the escape speed from earth's escape speed for it's gravity to be easily retained in the earth's atmosphere. These two gases are heated too easily. are too light and too close to the escape speed to hang around unfixed, or untrapped in the atmosphere.

How many pages does Escape from Earth have?
