If you're confident that the pump and thermostat are still OK,
I'd check for collapsed hoses, or a bad fan or temperature sensor
which tells the fan to turn on.

Remove the thermostat housing screws and separate the housing, exsposing the thermostat and coolant, remove old thermostat and gasket. Reinstall new thermostat, gasket and coolant.
There could be many reasons. Not enough coolant or bad flow, faulty thermostat, low oil. If the coolant freezes then it will overheat. If your car continues to overheat then you should have the coolant flushed and thermostat replaced.
Any coolant leak can cause an overheat.Any coolant leak can cause an overheat.
Leaking hose? Defective thermostat housing or bad thermostat gasket? Bad water pump or gasket? Leak in radiator? Leak at heater core? Leak at head gasket? Coolant recovery tank?
A 1996 Pontiac Sunfire uses Dexcool coolant. This should only be mixed with distilled water, never tap water. Replace the coolant every 2 years or as needed.
A lack of water in your cooling system will cause your 2002 Pontiac Sunfire to overheat. A malfunctioning thermostat can also cause it to overheat.
whaT KIND OF COOLANT DO I PUT IN MY 2001 PONTIAC SUNFIRE Generally, the GM model vehicles, or is this case, the sunfire, use a specific kind of coolant called DEX-cool extended life engine coolant. It is orange-ish in color and most of the time GM specific. i have a 01 sunfire, 2.2 liter myself, and on my car frame, i have a sticker that says "Use only DEX-cool engine coolant....". Hope this helps!
Coolant is all pretty much the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. Check your owner's manual to find out the right mixture for your Sunfire
many possibilities; low coolant, bad thermostat, radiator fan does not work, bad relays/fuses, leakage in coolant system, stopped up coolant system, bad radiator cap, blown head gasket.
Sure will. Thermostat will stick shut not allowing coolant to flow
It will probably overheat. answer= thermostat will not open and will prevent the flow of coolant . which will in turn do damage to your engine
Yes, it controls the coolant flow around the engine block, without coolant the engine would overheat.
