How long has your rat bitten you for? Is it a female it could be pregnant or not like it's food or the way you are treating it. Ask your vet or a friend who knows about rats.

Also, a rat may bite if it is sick or lonely. what I have encountered is my rat biting because he thinks that everytime I put my hand in, that I am giving him food, and when he doesnt see the food he smells food on my hands and bites- not realizing that he has hurt you.

Usually they don't bite. They're highly intelligent and usually pee/poop on you if you're bothering them. If you keep bothering them, then yes, they'll bite you.

because they like to chew on human poo and it must be under your fingernail. the acids in poo help them digest food easier
