Why does poaching continue to happen?

Poaching is basically illegal, uncontrolled hunting. Maybe you'll kill a mother animal while the young are still dependent on her, leaving them to starve to death - not nice.

Or if there's enough poaching, there may not be enough animals left for the species to survive in health. With only a few adult animals you can get inbreeding, incest and other nasties.

People hunt them for their horn, which is thought in many places to have medicinal properties. although this is not true, they are still killed because a horn can be sold for a lot of money to people...

Because poaching is killing off beautiful animals such as tigers, elephants and polar bears. they are killed for silly things, like fur, which may not even be used, medicines, which may not even work, and tusks, which is just plain pointless. if you think into the future, poaching is killing species, so, by the time your children or grandchildren, or your nieces and nephews are teenagers, these beautiful creatures may be things of the past, animals that no longer exist in the world. it depends on your point of you; but i dont think anyone would like their family to be killed off for no reason what so ever.

Where there are many animals, such as rainforests. Poachers also tend to aim for forests and areas where the government or an animal welfare society isn't monitoring (so they can't be found so easily), but the real edgy and cruel ones attack animal reserves, too.

Sad, right? So take my cause--and the cause of many other people--and spread the word: poaching is illegal and for LOSERS!

Greed. As long as there is a market, and a very high-priced one, for poached animals, there will be people greedy enough to commit the crime.

People do it for ivory trade. Ivory is very expensive, but now ivory trade is illegal (good thing that happened.)
