There is no reason why it shouldn't.
Go to Preferences... in the edit tab in the top right (next to file). Select the audio tab in the drop down menu. Now in the bottom right is a box that says play in back ground. Tick this and reason will play whilst your on the desktop.
Sorry for wasting time, I've just figured this out and don't know how to remove questions so I just answered my own question.
