One good reason software needs to be updated is get rid of problems the program maybe having that is due to improper programming. In other words new version get rid of the bugs and other problems. Sometime it is updated to make the program easier to use and add features that the original didn't come with.

The update of a software means that the developer has added new functions, eliminated bugs, designed a new interface, and other improvements.
