It occurs in the Upper Room where the disciples were gathered together, the day before Jesus' Crucifixion. In verse 3 it states that Jesus knew that He had come from God and was going (back) to God and in v.4 we read where Jesusrose from supper and prepared Himself to wash the disciples feet.Usually a servant would perform the menial task of washing the guests' feet, but as no servant was present Jesus took on the role. This is a lesson of humility and service to others.
