Another answer from our community:
They don't condone it. They simply fail to acknowledge it, and in the process of this "see no evil" policy, they appear to condone this heinous practice. When the masses start to believe that pedophiles are predominantly hetersexual males, we may be in a better position to protect our children. In the interim - take care of your children and keep an eye on these "religious" and "holy" men of God.

What nonsense! The Church has never condoned child abuse. The Church is the Mystical Body of Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, and, as such, is here to lead people to God - and away from sin.Unfortunately, there have been episodes of child abuse in the Church, and some, in the past, have not done enough to both stop the abuse and make sure it never happened again - but that was on an individual level, and as such cases are uncovered, the Vatican is putting those individuals out of business. It needs to be said, although no one seems willing to say it, but child abuse is once of the most heinous crimes around, and the incident of it in the Church is very small compared to other environments. It would seem that there is another agenda going on to get focus on the Catholic Church while ignoring the bigger problems of abuse in other areas of society. The Catholic Church has acknowledged, and publicly apologized - many times - for every instance of abuse done by its members, perhaps it is time to move on and concentrate on protecting children instead of beating the Church when so many other abusers are let off?
The Catholic Church believes that child abuse is evil. This teaching is based on natural and a belief in the dignity of every human person.
This isn't true. The Catholic Church would never authorize 'child abuse'. However, in the past, sadly many of the clergy may have sanctioned or participated in immoral acts like child abuse. Just because a few religious do this shouldn't be confused with the entire Church sacntionizing or morally approving the immoral act. Those clergy or laymen who claim that the Church is taking some immoral position such as authorizing child abuse are spreading heresy and in extreme cases can be excommunicated.
A police officer can not condone a parents excessive beating of a child. When a child is being hit for no reason, and anywhere but on the buttocks, this constitutes physical abuse.
yes because if you cause an harm to your child its counted as child abuse
Some of the books that are helpful in preventing child abuse are "Understanding Child Abuse & Neglect", "Child Abuse: Implications for Child Development and Psychopathology (Development Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry)", and "Child Abuse and Culture: Working with Diverse Families".
No not with child abuse, but child endangerment. She will be charged with abuse if she abuses her child! (i am a law enforcement officer)
The Catholic Church as a whole does not support child abuse, although more and more information coming to light shows that individual bishops protect the perpetrators within the Church and silence the victims, while others simply turn a blind eye. In fact, the Church says that it opposes child abuse, and indeed many bishops do oppose the evil practice, but whether the Church systemically opposes child sexual abuse is uncertain.Bishop Geoffrey Robinson (Confronting Power and Sex in the Catholic Church) says that the pope alone has the power to make the changes that are necessary. He is convinced that if the pope had spoken clearly and firmly at the beginning of the revelations, the entire response of the Church would have been far better. Even now, Robinson can see no evidence that a true confrontation of the problem is occurring.
The man yelled obscentities.Church-goers do not condone obscentities spoken in church.
The Catholic Church opposes the practice of slavery and has strongly condemned it throughout its history. The Church teaches that all individuals are equal in dignity and rights, and that slavery violates these principles.
The Catholic Church does not deny the Child Abuse - Fr. Brendan Smyth was the abuser. The subject causing controversy is that Cardinal Sean Brady was aware of this and did not do much about it. The Catholic Church are very particular about Child Abuse, Especially in America, where child abuse cases are more common. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, tried to explain how complicated these cases can be. He said; "if a priest cannot confide in his bishop for fear of being denounced then it would mean that there is no more liberty of conscience". But, the Catholic Church insists a "demand that a bishop be obligated to contact police to denounce a priest who had admitted paedophilia". Cardinal Sean Brady is in the wrong for not taking the situation further.
