There are settings on the iPod that make it lock after a certain amount of time. Also, the 'lock' feature that requires no password is to make sure you don't accidentally tap anything on the iPod when it is in your pocket. If you do not like the automatic lock feature after leaving it unattended for a certain amount of time, you can go into Settings and turn it off.
