The sun comes up in the east and goes down in the west, so I would imagine its because the north side does not get sun and so it stays moist or wet all of the time. So with a constantly wet surface, its a breading ground for mildew.

Do you need to take wood siding off a house if your going to vinyl side it?

No, but it will not help with the finished look of your new siding. Your j channel will look gaudy next to the window trim if you dont strip the old siding, but if your going to metal wrap the trim then you can pad the trim up to eat up that space, which I highly recommend. It will help make your new vinyl siding look ten times better, or go with a vinyl trim board or wood padded on the back side to bring your trim about a quarter to a half an inch beyond the j channel face which is what it would look like new.

Do it yourself vinyl siding?

Painting a house must be done every few years. The side of the house will look good for a year or two, but the weather will eventually take its toll on the paint job. Painting may offer the cheapest option for protecting the outside of a home, but it is not the best one. Aluminum and vinyl siding last much longer than paint jobs and may not have to be replaced during the lifetime of the current owner. Construction contractors offer their services to put up vinyl siding. The prices are not unreasonable considering that they must pay for the materials, pay their employees and make a profit, but the average person can save over 500 dollars if he knows how to do it himself. As with anything, a do-it-yourself enthusiast must know how to start the process before he begins. Any vinyl siding project begins with removing the former protective coating. This may mean chipping the paint off or removing the aluminum of vinyl siding installed by a previous owner. Buy J-trim. Measure the lengths of the windows and doors. Use a pair of tin shears to cut the trims to the appropriate length. Measure the lengths between windows and doors. Use the height of the vinyl siding panels to get the amount of panels you will need at length. Rough sketches may help with the installation process. Repeat this process all around your house. Cut the materials to the appropriate length. Certain types of vinyl siding come with a cover underneath. Place this before putting the vinyl siding on. Place the vinyl siding over the cover or the old home. Nail it on. When this is done, a homeowner can place the corner pieces which bring the whole look together. Make sure the siding fits under the J-trim pieces around the doors and windows and that it does not look rough. A homeowner who is pressed for time or does not have confidence in his skills as a handyman may wish to hire a contractor, but a person who enjoys these home improvement projects, such as installing vinyl siding, can save money by taking out the middle man.

Clean Your Home Before Applying Siding?

Before you begin any vinyl siding installation project, make sure the side of your home is clean and smooth. You can achieve this by pressure washing the sides and front of the home. Pressure washing will remove any dirt that is on the home so when the siding is installed, it will stay on the home better and not be uneven. Find a siding that will match the exterior of your home and will be easy to keep clean, such as white or beige.

How do you install an Exterior Door in a wall with vinyl siding when no previous door opening exists?

Remove the vinyl siding in the area of the door. It will unzip along the bottom and is nailed at the top. Locating the door approx. where you want it, remove a small section of inside sheetrock to locate studs and most outside walls have wiring in them. check for this. You will need to install a header above the door that is held up by 2x4's on each side. Make the opening big enough to accept the size door you are using, install the header and supports and cut outside sheathing and old siding and install door. If there is old lap siding then cut that back enough to allow for the trim on the new door. New J trim is installed around the door and the vinyl siding is cut to fit and reinstalled. Good advice. Just be sure to temporarily support the roof or floor above if there is one. If the door is a double door make sure the header is sufficient to carry the loads. If you are unsure, consult an engineer.

The Benefits of Beautiful Stone Siding?

Adding brand new siding to your home is a great way to improve its overall appearance and increase the value of your property. If the siding on your home is very old and needs to be replaced, you might want to consider putting centurion stone on the side of the building to give it a contemporary and rustic feel. While this type of siding is more expensive than your normal vinyl siding, it will add a touch of elegance that vinyl simply cannot do. You will be able to fully enjoy the way your house looks after the siding project has been completed. The first step to putting centurion stone on the side of your home is to have a professional siding company do it for you. This type of stone is incredibly heavy, so if it is not put up correctly, you will have nothing but issues for years to come. Only the professionals are trained to cement the stone to the side of your house to ensure that it stays for decades without any major issues. There are probably a few different siding companies in your local area, so make sure that you contact them if you are interested in having this project done. The company will be able to give you an estimate according to the size home you have and the specific type of stone you want to use. A beautiful new siding on the house can give it a brand new look and really change its overall appearance. Get rid of that old white siding and switch to centurion stone so that you can get that gorgeous feel that you know your home deserves. The right type of company will give you a good deal on the whole project so that it is not too expensive for you to afford once it is being done. Instead of depending on yourself to do this type of work, it is a good idea that you contact an expert in your local area and see what they can offer as far as stone and siding is concerned and the prices that they charge with everything.
