The radio display is usually tied to the dash board lights. As you raise or lower the illumination on the dash, the radio lights should change. During the day (with your headlights off), the radio display is at full brightness so it is easier to read in daylight.
Yes, you can change the radio in your Murano. You will need to purchase a kit and the radio you want so that the new radio fits seamlessly.
If you turn up your interior dashboard light settings, then the radio display will be brighter too. The radio dims to the setting for the dashboard when the lights are turned on.
Should be able to turn your radio to channel 0 and it should display your id #.
Try diconnecting the battery for one minute. I have a 2005 Murano and it actually resets nicely after 15 seconds of disconnected. Just leave key on and radio, and you can tell right away.

If the dashboard dimmer switch works with the other dash lights, the fault is in the radio unit itself.
The instrument cluster lights have their own fuse. It's a 5 amp at the bottom center of the fuse block. When the lights are on, the radio draws lamp power from the instrument cluster. This allows you to dim the brightness of the radio display with the other internal lamps.
You can't be serious. If the display light goes out...that means it is out. Buy a new radio if it really bothers you.
The stereo light should not go out. It should get dimmer though. They assume that if your headlights are on, it is dark outside and you don't need as much light to read the radio display as you would in bright light.
The backlight lightbulb inside the stereo for the display may be burned out ( best case ) or the display itself is bad ( worst case ). How would either senerio be fixed?
When driving at night with the headlights on, the radio and other display lights automatically dim. The bright button brightens those lights if you have trouble seeing them.
The instruments light dim for night driving when the headlights are turned on. Check to insure that your dash dimmer switch is on high. If it is, then you have a problem with either the dimmer switch or the wiring.
