Squealer is the pig responsible for spreading the propaganda of Napoleon to the other residents of the farm. Squealer uses his skill at jargon and speech to keep the animals firmly under napoleons control.
When George Orwell describes Squealer as being able to "turn black into white", he is in fact referring to Squealer's persuasive skill. In other words, Squealer has enough persuasive talent to be able to convince the animals in Animal Farm that black is white or vice-versa.
The three pigs, Snowball, Squealer, and Napolean take all the apples and milk, and they tell the other animals it's for their own good. That was their first act of corruption.
Squealer represents the propaganda newspaper Pravda rather than a person the way the other pigs in the novel do. The statement that Squealer can turn black into white was intended to refer to Pravda's ability to turn lies into truth. Squealer also carries the messages from Napoleon to the other pigs who simply take what Squealer says for gospel. In other words, Squealer is a method of communication from the top to the bottom with the ability to put the proper spin on the information. That was Pravda.
Squealer calls Napoleon by the name of Leader. That can be seen in the early pages of Chapter 6. "It was also more suited to the dignity of the Leader (for of late Squealer had taken to speaking of Napoleon under the title of 'Leader') to live in a house than in a mere sty." (Animal Farm, Chapter 6) Squealer is telling all the animals that the pigs should live in the farmhouse due to the fact that they work "harder" than all the other animals on the farm.
Fear in Animal Farm was used to manipulate the animals. E.G. Squealer telling the other animals that Jones would come back, and in that fear the animals would work harder wouldn't questions thinks and presume everything was fine now that they are "free". I hope it helps!
Napoleon has Squealer secretly paint over the Seven Commandments so that they express favor to the pigs without the other animals becoming suspicious of the pigs violating the laws. For instance, one of the original Commandments stated:"No animal shall sleep in a bed."Squealer is then employed by Napoleon to change it to:"No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets."
1. Whatever goes upon 2 legs is an enemy.- The pigs start dealing with humans and end up walking on 2 legs.2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.- The pigs end up thinking any animal that walks on four legs or has wings in inferior.3. No animal shall wear clothes.- The pigs all end up wearing clothes.4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.- Squealer changes this to 'No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets' because they decided to sleep on the humans beds.5. No animal shall drink alcohol.- Squealer changes this to 'No animal shall drink alcohol to excess' and end up getting drunk often.6. No animal shall kill any other animal.- Squealer changes this to 'No animal shall kill any other animal without cause'. Napoleon sentences anyone who was thought to be plotting against him (though he has no evidence) to death. Boxer is sent off to be killed and turned into glue when he breaks a leg.7. All animals are equal.- Squealer changes this to 'All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others'. It is very obvious that the pigs come out on top and order everyone around.
Since squealer was very clever and intelligent he used his intelligence to twist the words around to make the other animals believe that it was necessary for the pigs to drink the milk.
Squealer, the propaganda-spreading pig, reads scraps of newspaper to the other animals in "Animal Farm" to manipulate their perceptions and maintain control over them. He distorts information and selectively presents facts to support the ruling pigs' agenda and suppress any dissent among the animals.
The animal rankings in the book goes as follows: Napoleon>Squealer>Humans>Other animals. As you can see, Napoleon worked himself up to the top with rumors, propoganda, and lies. He represents Stalin. Squealer, who represents Lenin, is his ever faithful lackey and helps him to spread his propoganda, lies, and rumors. The humans represent the richer folk in Russia at the time, being equal but at the same time not as equal as Stalin. And the other animals represents the working class, the peasents, and the regular citizens.
The other animals allowed the pigs to have the rights to the cows milk because they were the smartest and therefore, deserved the cows milk more than any of the other animals. Or at least that is what the pigs convinced them to think.
