Why does the sun not have a year?

A "year" is defined as the time required for a planet or other object to complete a single revolution around the star it is orbiting. The Sun is itself a star, so it has no other star around which to orbit. The "galactic year", the period of time for the Sun to completely orbit the center of the Milky Way galaxy, is estimated at from 225 to 250 million Earth years.
