Bad ground to the dash.
Try looking at the low beam fuse it may be blown. If no other lights come on it could be the switch.

The easiest way I come up with is a little strange but there are very few differences between them. If it has a tachometer and a radio antenna then it a LS. If it has a tachometer and no antenna then its a GS. If it doesn't have a tachometer then it is a RS.
Yes , there was a mechanical gauge cluster and a mechanical gauge cluster with tachometer - but I'm sorry I don't know if they can be interchanged

you live in the states it is a safety feature in Canada tha all cars after i think 1990 have this in them but not in the states they are lights the come on when you start your car when you turn on your lights on the lightrs will go a little brighter as well as your tail lights
Make sure you have it out of AUTO LIGHTS ON. Do the lights automatically come on when the car is started? If so, the Auto Lamp switch may be on.
