A flag is simply an advertisement for your country. It represents the people and the efforts they undertook to establish the country. Some people think the flag is sacred or gives power to the country, but in truth, the flag is merely a fancy towel and harming it does nothing to the country it represents. The sacrifices of my forefather are not lost if you burn my flag, for example. People who would protect a fancy red-white-and-blue blanket over the citizens it represents do the country a terrible disservice. So why does the flag get treated better than people? Some people don't understand real patriotism and simply want to worship a colorful washcloth instead of the ideas it represents.
