There are various improbable '2012' scenarios that will continue to circulate until the end of 2012 and the proof that the world really does still exist.
The most probable natural cause of the end of the world is that when the sun finally begins to cool, in a few billion years time, the world will become a cold and lifeless rock circling the sun. Materially, the earth will continue to exist, but that will be the end of life on earth.

Actually it is, but not for about 6 billion years when the sun switches from hydrogen burning to helium burning and as a result expands to a giant star whose "surface" will be beyond earth's orbit. All 3 of the inner planets will be engulfed and consumed and the temperature on mars will become roasting hot.
