You can send text messages from your computer via some email accounts. Yahoo Mail has a feature for sending text messages where you enter the cell phone number and type in your message. Gmail has a similar feature through their chat function. Some text message accounts are set up to receive emails as text messages so if you know someone who has that set up you can send an email from any account and it will appear as a text message on the receivers phone.
