density is mass/volume that is the total mass per 1cm3 of the liquid in question. as water becomes colder, its particles loose energy and move closer together, increasing the number of particles per 1cm3 and therefore increasing the amount of mass in that 1cm3

Is frozen salt water heavier than frozen water?

The density of saline water is greater than the density of pure water.

What weights more frozen water or normal?

Ice has a lower density than water (hence it floats on it) and as such will be lighter than the same volume of water.

Does oil or water have a lower density?

Oil floats on water, and has a lower density.

Does a cup have the same amount of water after it has been frozen?

No. There are two main differences (and most others follow on from them): the temperature is lower so the frozen water is solid rather than liquid and the density has decreased (the same volume of water will have expanded).

Does salt water have a lower density than water?

Yes, fresh water has a slightly lower density than salt water.

How is water density affected by freezing?

The density of ice is lower than the density of water.

Does freshwater have a lower density than salt water?

Yes, fresh water has a slightly lower density than salt water.

What does a solid block with a lower density than water do in a container of water?

A solid block with a lower density than water will float in a container of water.

Why snow floats on water?

The density of snow is lower than the density of water.

Does density have an effect on ice?

The density of ice is lower than the density of water; ice float on water.

How does it explode when you put water in ice and put the lid on of the box?

Ice (near its melting point) has a lower density than water (it has more volume per unit mass). That's why ice floats on water. If it didn't have lower density, it would sink. All the oceans would be frozen from the bottom up and there would be no life on earth.

When water freezes what causes it to float?

The density of ice is lower than the density of water.
