What you see is not steam. It's better to call it fog ... a cloud of tiny water droplets in the air. They form around anything cold, for the same reason that mist condenses and collects on a cold glass of soda or a cold mirror, and that you see your breath outside on a cold day. The cold object cools the air around it, whereupon the ability of the chilled air to hold water vapor is reduced, and some of the water vapor condenses out of the air, into the liquid state.
I usually allow 40 to 48 hours, but, mind you, I'm talking about a deep freezer. A standard kitchen freezer just can't handle the job - body probably wouldn't fit anyway.
why does steam take up more space than liquid water
Yes. All you have to do is put the piece of paper in a pan. then you fill the pan with water, put it the freezer for 2-3 hours. finally you take it out of the freezer, the paper will be frozen. you then take it and break it. you have successfully broken paper.

If u take out the plug and hold the door open, as hot qs the surrounding air
Foods that are good to store in a deep freezer are endless. I recommend meats, first and foremost as they take up a lot of space in your smaller freezers and this is a great way to stock up and save money.

Mold will not grow on bread while it is in the freezer.
It depends on how deep the mold is but you can expect it to take several hours to really firm up. Usually after four hours the mold will be firm and will set faster if you put the mold in the freezer to chill before you put the jello in it.
