The most likely cause is a failed fuel level sender in the fuel tank.
0 ......because its empty stupid :)
Empty it holds almost 9 quarts.
Completely empty it will hold almost 9.Completely empty it will hold almost 9.

Reservoir is empty, washer pump is bad, blown fuse, hose disconnected, squirt nozzles plugged/covered with ice,
Insufficient fuel supply (bad pump or clogged filter) or empty tank. Ignition system problem. Bad throttle position sensor or MAP sensor.
In a Dodge I believe it stands for Distance To Empty.
unhook everything on your engine and take your engine and tranny off the chassie. Then you remove the entire engine and tranny combo from your van. empty the transmission oil and undo the bolts connecting the transmission to the engine. The do it all in reverse and add new transmission fluid and whatever else fluid you had to empty to get your engine tranny combo out.
If the Dodge Ram 1500's transmission is completely empty then it will need 11 quarts to refill. If it is not completely empty then 5 quarts will do.
On a 1996 Dodge Caravan, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. If you look at the tank directly, the tank dips in on the side and has a round white object sitting on top of it with an electrical connection and two black rubber hoses connected. Those hoses are fuel filter lines, and the white thing is the top of the pump. Empty then lower the tank, unhook all the connections, and use a strap wrench or similar tool to loosen it, and what you pull out is the fuel pump. Ta-da! =)
If completely empty it should. If completely empty it should.
