Why does your cat kick?

There are any number of reasons. Most commonly, it is because there is something behind it that it wants to keep away from; it is also a fighting move, if another animal is on top of it, and the cat is on its back, the kick with the hind paws, claws extended, stands a good chance of disemboweling the attacker.
