This is the way a horse can clean out its lungs of things like dust or dirt that it inhales. Discharge from the nose is normal but if there is a large amount of it and if it is a tan or green color it is time to call a vet in.
The horse has a nose appropriate to his size, which for the average horse, is about 1000 lbs. They have a long head and some people call the horse's face or head, his nose. The nostrils are larger than many mammals, this enables the horse to breath in more oxygen during physical activity. In turn, the more oxygen taken in helps when running from a preditor.
There are two likely causes for this, both of which require the attention of a equine veterinarian immediately.
Choke: The horse may have a lump of food or foreign material lodged in it's throat. The signs include Difficulty swallowing, no interest in food, coughing, extending the neck and head outward or downward, nasal discharge which may be green, yellow, or clear and anything from runny, vomit like or foamy. Drooling, increased heart rate, and possibly a visible or palpable lump on the side of the neck.
Strangles: A highly contagious equine version of Strangles.
The signs include: Fever, listlessness, heavy nasal discharge which may be foamy, and swollen /enlarged Lymph Nodes in the neck and throat-latch areas.
Other causes could include a Guttural pouch infection, bad/abscessed tooth, or even a sinus infection.
Horses usually "work" (play with) the bit with their mouths, which causes them to salivate. The greenish tint usually just comes from leftover food.

If a horse has foam coming from the mouth and nose it could be EHV-1 or Strangles. A veterinarian will nee to be called to check the horse and give medicines.

My dog gets white foam coming from his nose when he's hiking with us. It doesn't seem to impede him, but it looks weird. I can deal with the drooling and foaming around the mouth, but the nose foam is strange. What's the deal??
A horses nose is called a muzzle...x
Same as us - by breathing in air, which is delivered to the lungs to be exchanged with carbon dioxide, which the horses breathe out.
The nasal passages of a horse are large and flexible and designed to take large amounts of air into the horses lungs. When a horse is exercising at their maximum ability, the amount of air coming in increases ten times the normal. At the back of a horses throat, they have 2 "trap doors", so to speak, flaps of tissue that prevent food and other material from going into the horses lungs. These are called the soft palate and the epiglottis. The soft palate is a flap of tissue at the top of the back of the throat and hangs down. The epiglottis is a flap at the bottom of the back of the throat that points up. Working in harmony, these flaps open and close, letting only food and water go into the horses stomach and only air go into the horses lungs.
A snip is simply a marking on a horses muzzle or nose
it is boogers coming from a horses nose
White foam around the mouth and nose of a dog could be from dehydration or nausea. It is best to consult a veterinarian.

Some horses have nose bleeds when given strenous excercise, so they ar given lasix to lower their blood pressure reducing the possiblity of the nose bleeds. It is done to improve the publics view of horse racing, not because the horse is in any real danger from the nose bleeds. I just doesn't do the racing industry any good to see a horse in the winner circle with blood dripping from a nose bleed or bloody frothy foam around the mouth and nostrils.
