When your generation grew up the cartoons pretty much exploded all over the place, movies, TV, internet, magazines, books etc. When she was little it was just the movies pretty much and if it was on TV it was not at all as much as it is today. Cartoons back then was for children and there wasn't any Manga or cartoons for adults that sold a lot or was really popular. To her watching cartoons seems childish. I can partially agree with her when you say only cartoons. Knowing what goes in in the world and your country is a good thing as an adult. It pays off when getting a job and meeting new people to show you are aware of things going on.
