Why doesn't goose remove his shirt in top gun?

I can personally think of a number of reasons. 1) Goose and Maverick are close friends and it's possible the film makers were worried about the audience perceiving them as homosexuals or homosexual-ish if there was mutual disrobing going on. 2) The film makers wanted to emphsize the sexy virility of their main character and thus kept "second banana" Goose clothed so as not to give any competition to the Tom Cruise character. 3) Anthony Edwards wasn't in perfect physical shape, maybe lacking six-pack abs or whatever Hollywood has decreed a man needs to strut his stuff on screen.
