As of May 2012, the Australian Labor Party (ALP) does not want an election because they fear they will lose. Polls of the Australian public indicate a great deal of disillusionment with the ALP, its policies and its lack of direction. Whereas just a few years ago, the ALP dominated the political scene in almost every state and territory, this has been reversed, with the Coalition now dominating state politics. People, quite simply, have turned against Labor, and their chances of maintaining power in the face of a new election are rather dismal.
