A good solution to this common problem is to update your PC's BIOS. Your computer manufacturer's website should include BIOS updates on their Support/Downloads page.
Dell's is: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
HP's is: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Computers do not "burn out." If they are treated normally (shut down properly, not overclocked, etc...) they can last indefinitely.
shut it down
do not download it it will send you to a website called youreanidiot.org then it will say your computer will shut down and in the process of making your computer shut down it will send plenty of viruses on your computer. the only way to beat this is when it says your computer will shut down you have to shut it down before the website does.
Since Windows is a multi-tasking, multi-threaded operating system (in other words, it can do several things at once), the process of shutting down Windows makes sure that all of the tasks are terminated properly, and all of the files that may be open are closed.Let us say, for example, that your computer was in the process of checking for new e-mail messages when you shut it down (improperly). The file where your email is stored may be "left open", meaning that the computer wasn't finished with the file operations when it was shut down. The next time you open your e-mail, it may not work because the file it needs was not closed properly. That is a simplistic example; your computer is most likely running 50-100 processes at any given time, so shutting down properly makes sure that all of those things are shut down properly as well before Windows shuts the power down to the computer.
to shut down your computer properly, you need to log off your computer. Then go to the start menu and click 'shut down.' If it gives you a list of options, click the 'shut down' option. Shutting down a computer while downloading any software, games, videos, music, etc. may result in it not downloading properly. After rebooting the computer, try again.

You can, but I would advise against it as your computer should be shut down normally thru Windows. This way Windows is shut down properly, and the the read/write head on the hard drive is properly "parked" in a safe area on the hard drive.
