Likely to be the crank sensor. Located on the front of the engine. It triggers from a flat-toothed wheel. Try replacing that first, but get a schematic. These ignition systems are fairly simple. It depends on the year of Jag normally the TDC sensor but if its an early Jag check the points

you're not getting it seated all the way. the clip has to snap onto the top of the spark plug.
