There are several situations in which a Ditto would not seem to get along. First of all, you should note that fact that the two don't seem to get along means that they will, eventually, lay an egg. It will however, take a while.
First of all, the Pokemon are different species. Also, you probably are breeding two Pokemon from the same Original trainer. Both of these contribute to the amount of time it will take for an egg and the statement reflects that.
For future reference, I believe that the only response from the Daycare Man that translates into "NO egg, -- ever" is: " The two prefer to play with other Pokemon."
