Mitosis alone does not produce daughter cells because the cytoplasm has to divide. This is called cytokinesis and it happens at the end of telophase.

Mitosis is division of the nucleus and produces two daughter nuclei. Cytokinesis must occur in order for the cytoplasm to divide and produce two daughter cells.
