Banning smoking would not stop people from smoking. It would merely create a black market for tobacco. Just as in the 20's alcohol prohibition did not stop alcohol consumption.
Additionally, tobacco prohibition would lead to an increase in law enforcement spending while also cutting off a very lucrative tax revenue.
Well, some might argue it is not the government's place to ban smoking, that it would violate the right to do what we want within limits. Another argument is banning smoking would have a negative effect on the economy-- tobacco companies are huge.
The smoking ban may save the life of someone you know.

The NHS does advocate for measures to reduce smoking rates, but a complete ban may not be practical or politically viable. Smoking is a legal activity, and a total ban could lead to backlash, increased black market activity, and challenges in enforcement. Instead, the NHS focuses on public health campaigns, smoking cessation programs, and regulations to control tobacco sales and use while balancing individual freedoms.
In the United States, the day indoor smoking bans went into effect varied according to state and local governments. The Federal smoking ban only affected federal buildings. The North Carolina smoking ban went into effect on January 1, 2010. Some went into effect before 2000.
It is still legal to smoke tobacco, although not in all locations. Obama has introduced no new law to ban smoking.
They dont ban it because it brings in a lot of tax money.
Get the people in public housing to pay there own way. NO Public Housing = No smoking ban.
