The corners of Post-It notes (or any square surface) contain the smallest surface area, thusly there's less of the magical 3M adhesive to keep them put. Temperature of the surface to which the Post-It is being applied also has a lot to do with the stickiness. The folks at Post-It have just come out with the "Super Sticky" variety that stay put much better, but won't damage most surfaces nor leave behind any goo.
