Because boys have a thing called masculinity where if they do cute/soppy things their masculinity would decrease. Basically a man calls his pride masculinity.
His definition of cute isn't exactly going to be your definition of cute, and other people's definition of cute will vary, too, so it's just your opinion that a boy isn't doing something cute.
