It depends on the situation at the time. If someone`s just sitting there, then of course its understandable to assume that they dont want to be alone. It normally appears to someone (or more than one) that someone isn`t fitting in, or getting along when their alone. If they would unhappy or upset about something people dont really assume they dont want to be left alone, they more of think that they want to talk it out or have someone to talk to. Which of course is a great thing to do, but at first when your upset you need some alone time to think about it. Then when your ready you`ll go ahead and talk with someone about it. In general people look at someone and want to make them feel included (or feel bad) as a general picture.
