Stormrose says:

"Power lines are encased in a rubber tube, much like any other electrical wires, such as the ones in a set of headphones, or a lamp cord. The birds feet are not actually touching the live wires, so they aren't getting shocked. ITS PATH

GrowtheTruth says:

Absolutely ridiculous AND completely wrong! LOL! Sorry...

The reason why birds don't get electrocuted is because electricity has to flow from something to something. Birds only sit on one wire with their feet touching it, which means that there is no connectivity to the electrical flow, thus not completing the electrical path. The electricity would have no way to travel through the bird.

There is always the potential for a bird to be electrocuted, though. If one bird were to touch another bird or wire while perched on the line or if a bigger bird (with a larger wing span) were to touch the wire with its wingtips, then the circuit would be completed and would flow through their bodies, which would most likely kill them.

Also, it can be said that, should someone grab a power line with both hands at the exact (and I do mean exact) same time, while their feet are not on the ground and nottouching anything else, with no other body part touching the power line (or anything else for that matter) while holding on, and then they were to let go at exactly the same time, without touching the ground first...then that person would survive with no injuries!

Apex- Birds sitting on a single power line don't get shocked because there is no path for current to flow to the ground

Because each foot is at the same potential, so no current can pass through their body.

Do birds gain heat from powerlines in the winter?

Unlikely at most. Just because there is many thousands of volts passing through the lines they land on, there is no grounding done and no electrical charge involved. Many birds land on the lines to see where they will feed next or gather with birds of the same species.

How do birds not get electrocuted on power lines?

Actually if we were to sit on a power line and not touch anything else like the birds do we would not get electrocuted. The current a flow of electrons, flows along a path of least resistance the electrons want to get to where they are going in the easiest possible way. Electricity flows from one voltage to another value of voltage. For the birds, the power lines have the same voltage -- so the birds are safe. Don't approach power lines, because humans come from the ground, which is a sink for the current.

Why do birds never get a shock when they stand on electric wire please answer in Tamil?

They do. but it you probably see them standing on phone land lines

How come birds can land on power lines without being electrocuted?

The high voltage is between one wire and the other. From one point on the wire to another point on the same wire, the voltage is quite insignificant. As long as the birds don't touch both wires, nothing much will happen. The wire does not have a difference in voltage from foot to foot. The term "high voltage" refers from wire to ground. Electricity flows down a voltage gradient. There is no gradient of voltage between the feet.

In show jumping how many fences are there in a treble?

There are three fences in a trble. | | | This is what a treble would look like from birds eye view, if you imagine that the lines are jumps.

Why are the songs Autumn in New York and Moonlight in Vermont so similar?

Many songs are similar to one another. The similarity of the song titles and lines lend themselves to similarity. Songwriters are consciously or unconsciously affected by the work of other songwriters. That the songs are so similar is not shocking - a bit unusual, but not shocking.

Why does some power lines have red plastic balls attached to them?

That is to warn birds so that large flock of birds do not fly into the power lines. Also helicopters.

Usually they don't.

Why does the solar wind interfere with the navigation of birds?

Birds navigate using lines of magnetism around the earth. Solar winds can disrupt these lines causing birds to read them incorrectly. therefore the bird may not be able to find where its going.

Why are large birds more vulnerable to powerlines than smaller birds?

Smaller birds can fly through the gaps in power lines and bigger birds get stuck when they try to go through.
