Because a lot of people dont believe in god, and 'miracles' are apparently the workings of God and saints.
Answer:
First of all... the purpose of miracles is to "cause people to believe" [in something or other].
But, not all miracles are of God. In fact -- what men might call "miracles" that are recorded in The Bible are not necessarily regarded as so by God; but ordinary things that aren't thought of as all that difficult to do by our Creator.
People, on the other hand, have seen too many magic tricks and "sleight-of-hand" in this world and tend to perhaps disbelieve these days, more than believe.
The Bible does speak of a distressful time coming on the earth and a panicky populace, when a series of miracles performed by the "False Prophet" [given by the power by Satan] will CAUSE THEM TO BELIEVE that a man is not only worthy to lead them to salvation -- but worthy OF WORSHIP!
"...he performed great and miraculous signs... Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the First Beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth..." (Rev.13:13-14 NIV).
As this prophecy points out... these particular miracles and "lying wonders" performed by the False Prophet SHOULDN'T BE BELIEVED because they are deceptions -- LIES!
Belief or disbelief in miracles is a matter of discernment on the part of those witnessing them. In the end... what it comes down to is: 'what is it that the so-called miracle is trying to get people to believe?'
Everyone "believes" something. But are they believing lies or the Truth?
"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to Love the Truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will BELIEVE THE LIE and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the Truth but have delighted in wickedness." (II Thess.2:9-12 NIV)
Not all miracles are worth believing... as the world shall soon find out.

No, you do not have to believe in miracles to believe in God. Some of America's Founding Fathers were deists. Deists believe that the creator God, having created the world, takes no further interest in his creation and performs no miracles. Of course, the fact that miracles do not really happen is more naturally aligned with a belief that there is no God at all.
Many people who have personally experienced miracles do believe that God can and does perform healing miracles in answer to prayer. Often the answer to prayer is different from what we want because God has another plan for the person. Many people believe in the New Testament.
