They are manufacturing codes indicating where and when they were cast. You can find the meanings to these codes in a Haynes or Chilton repair manual available at most any auto parts store.
There is casting numbers on the side of the block, just above the freeze plugs, that will give the casting date. give those numbers to year one dot com or some dealers, that fool with classics. they have the chart to convert the casting numbers to dates.

HEAD CASTING NUMBER REQUIRES REMOVING THE VALVE COVER AND CHECKING THE RAISED CASTING NUMBER ON TOP OF THE HEAD. YOU CAN CALL A DEALER OR A ENGINE REBUILDING SHOP AND GIVE THEM THE NUMBERS. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU THE YEARS THAT CORRESPON TO THE CASTING NUMBERS.
Numbers will give you the bone stock brand new engine hp and torque numbers. No point. If you really want to know what you got, dyno it.
look on the bellhousing on the driver's side and write the numbers down and look the numbers up. Google 350 Chevy casting numbers online or go to your local library. the year and the casting number will give you all the specs on that engine.
