The biggest threat to bald eagles was DDT, a pesticide that caused eggs to be so brittle that they rarely hatched. The pesticide was banned in the 70's and since that time many birds of prey including the bald eagle have made a tremendous comeback. Bald eagles are both scavangers and fishers and prefer habitat by large lakes, oceans or rivers. As the range begins to expand you can expect to see eagles any place where lakes or rivers are plentiful including around the land between the lakes and lake cumberland.
