Well the obvious is that they use violence to show which side is best which wouldn't be so bad if innocent people werent caught in the crossfire. Also gangs think that anything can be resolved by violence which can lead to death to innocent people. The other reasons could be the graffiti, growing prison population, or just the crime breaking in general. Gangs are just "clubs" with people who have very strong feelings toward one idea. Gangs wouldn't be so bad if they would direct there energy toward somthing productive.
