Why has Shangrila MUSH been down for the past approximately 22 hours?

Hi, this is nails. Here's the story:
Shortly after 5:30am on Saturday morning, the server 'bandermouse' became unreachable. I happened to wake up around that time, went to see what was happening and found that the answer was: very little.
I called in to my hosting provider around 6am. They asked if the issue could wait until Sunday morning, and I said I'd prefer it didn't. They informed me that there was scheduled construction work (HVAC maintenance/upgrades) in the facility on Saturday, and because of this access to the datacenter was restricted. The guy said he'd see if he could get a tech in despite that and he went to make some calls. In the meantime, he also tried remotely powercycling it, but that did not bring the server back up.
He contacted me a few hours later and said that they weren't able to get a tech in during the window, and that it would be either later that night or early Sunday morning. He then emailed me later in the evening saying that it was scheduled for Sunday morning.
This morning, a little after 8am, I was woken up by work (yes, I've got a day job) and had to go fix something. In the process I checked on the server, and lo and behold it started to ping. Within seconds, my hosting guy called me to let me know they'd gotten it back up.
I fixed the work thing and then logged into the server and began checking on things, verifying databases and starting up games. And lo! Shangrila was back up. Unfortunately it didn't last. Maybe 45 minutes after coming up, the server hung again.
Unfortunately, within that time, the tech had left the datacenter again.
As it stands, it looks like early tomorrow morning will have someone back onsite to take a look at the server, and check the console before trying to restart it. When we have a better idea of what the root cause is, we'll be able to better estimate the proper recovery time and our plan of action.
In the meantime, I am using BrazilMUX as my basecamp - The address is brazilmux.tinymux.org 2860. Hanging out there may get you more up to date (and very likely more accurate) status information. If you have questions, that's where to ask them.
