Answer

Society is so screwed up. Children wandering around on barren streets all times of the days and nights, parent fighting, drinking and or using drugs, these people need help, the children need help, that's why Social Workers are so badly needed. I can't say for the States as to how well they are paid, but in Canada where I live, they don't make much and don't last long on the job. They see more misery in a month than most people see in a life time.

This is a very thankless proffession to be in. It takes a good person, with a kind heart to do this kind of job.

Humans are, by nature social creatures; their development and growth requires nurturing, protection and guidance each of which-at one point or another in their lives-was provided by another human beyond themselves. What developed was a relationship as well as a person's concept of self, their very survival-both psychologically and physically-was tied to decisions and actions of others. Thus, social workers draw on the interconnectedness/interdependence of people's relationships to help their clients with things from their most basic needs to their more complex ones. The social work profession is devoted to helping/facilitating improved quality effectiveness of these relationships and interactions, especially in the lives of individuals who experience social injustice, oppression and or discrimination--the most vulnerable in our society.
