Simply put, it is simply too big. It takes our space probes months, if not years to reach the nearest planets. The New Horizons space probe, will reach Pluto 9 years after its launch in 2006. The farthest humans have gone from Earth is the moon, which can be reached in a few days. Longer stays in space have been accomplished at space stations in low earth orbit, which periodically receive supplies from Earth and can be reached fairly quickly in an emergency.
Assuming other barriers were over come, if something were to go wrong on such a long-term mission we would be unable to help the astronauts beyond communicating with them. Consider the Apollo 13 mission on which three astronauts nearly died when a major malfunction left them with little control over the spacecraft and a bare minimum of life support for several days.
On another note, in order to leave the solar system an object must be going incredibly fast. We can get an object to go that fast, but there is no way for us to get something on such a trajectory to turn around. So anyone who left on a mission to leave the solar system could never return to Earth.
