Why historians write history?

Generally speaking people who have studied a great deal of history in college, are often led to become historians, and write about it because they truly love history. In college, there are any number of history specialties. As examples, there is US History, Art History and Ancient History. The list is long and many history majors decide to focus in on a particular history, such as the history of ancient Rome. Historians research their particular subject and decide to add new opinions or newly discovered facts about a certain area of history. They become writers of history, and if their lucky their works will be published. Also, there is a different source of historians. That is the group of scholars, who are perhaps Assistant Professors or full fledged Professors in a college or university. As history "teachers' it is expected of their Department heads to research history and publish papers, and books that reveal a particular insight they have learned and have specialized in. This is a must if one wishes to elevate their knowledge to a higher level and maintain their jobs in a particular university. A professor who has established a great reputation in the emperors of Rome, as an example, is eligible to be recruited to another university as the head of a department, or a similar position with higher pay.
