What happen in the genocide Rwanda?

In Rwanda there are two groups, the Hutus and the Tutsis. These people lived together, they were neighbors and friends. Gradually however the Hutus began to hate the Tutsis because of hate radio and other reasons. A militia of Hutus began going out each day and massacring hundreds of Hutus, even their own neighbors and wives. A rebel army of Tutsis was fighting the Hutu army to try to stop them. Finally the Tutsis won, but an unbelievable number of Tutsis had died.I would suggest looking it up on wikipedia for more information.

Why did the hutu and tutsi fight?

The Hutu and the Tutsi, who were in fact the same race, were separated based on their appearances by their foreign, Belgian rulers prior to the genocide. The Hutu were the majority; they where more bulky in build and had darker skin. The Tutsi were taller, with lighter skin, and they made more money. For this reason hate for the Tutsi was common among the Hutu. Prejudiced radio stations were geared toward spreading hate for the Tutsi. The Tutsi were a scapegoat, targeted by the Hutu during difficult times in Rwanda. "Poverty breeds extremism"; for this reason the Hutu were willing to believe that the Tutsi were the root of their problems.

What Role does Media play in Rwanda?

The media played a crucial role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Local media fueled the killings, while the international media writer ignored what was happening! The radio alone made more and more Hutus hate Tutsis. They used the radio as a tool for hate. Hutu neighbors had to turn against Tutsi neighbors even if they were friends. Why did the Hutu want to kill the Tutsi?

The Hutus claimed that the Tutsies assassinated their 1st populary elected president, so the Hutus took immediate action making messages to broadcast on "Hate Radio" to kill all Tutsis. This soon turned into the Rwandan Genocide and nearly 1,000,000 Rwandans were murdered.

What was the Rwanda massacre?

The genocide took place in the context of the Rwandan Civil War, an ongoing conflict beginning in 1990 between the Hutu-led government and the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), which was largely composed of Tutsi refugees whose families had fled to Uganda following earlier waves of Hutu violence against the Tutsi. Most of the dead were Tutsis and most of those who perpetrated the violence were Hutus. The genocide was sparked by the death of the Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, a Hutu, when his plane was shot down above Kigali airport on 6 April 1994.

What caused Rwandan genocide?

A genocide is when a person or a group of people try to exterminate a whole race or culture. The Hutu's were trying to extermanate the Tutsi's because of their race. That's what made it a genocide.
