Keep in mind that the earth sets at an angle, rather than straight up and down. The US and Argentina are on opposite hemispheres, northern(North America) and southern(South America). In July the northern hemisphere is more directly facing the sun which is why we get summer...usually hot and muggy in Virgina and on the contrast the sun is not directly facing Argentina in June, July and August(our summer months), for them it is winter...just as it is winter in Australia and New Zealand at that time, while Japan and Germany are in the summer. Silly example: When you see a fairly round tree and the sun is shining on it about at 2 pm(this is the earth in June, July and August) and you notice the top half is brighter than the bottom half, this would be like South America.
