because once u get into about 6th grade changes start to happen and u arent really a child anymore... and i think that some states think that people at those ages should be separated and some don't so that's why i think some states have a middle school also or just have elementary and high school.

Middle school is separate from elementary and high school because middle school student's fit into neither category.

Middle school student's are more mature than elementary school students, and at a different intellectual, emotional, and social place in their lives. Middle school students are not as mature as high school student's, however, and do not know as much about life as the average high school student.

Because children from about 12-14 are in between these two worlds, middle school's were created.
