It's rated PG-13 because there is some swearing that isn't appropriate for young kids and there is also a scene where they're in health class and there is some talk about safe and unsafe sex, where Zac Efron actually talks to his daughter and daughter's boyfriend about not having sex at all because her boyfriend took a ton of condoms. Not appropriate for young kids in that scene at all.
