9/11, or September 11 is the anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks by radical-Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda. On this day, four flights were hijacked and intentionally piloted into various locations around the country. Two of the hijacked planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, another of the four planes flown into the Pentagon just outside Washington DC, and the last crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after a heroic attempt by the passengers to regain control of the plane. In total roughly 3,000 lives would be lost as a result of the attacks, many perishing as the Twin Towers collapsed.

This event marked a turning point in US foreign policy and relations with the Middle-East and sparked the international War on Terror.
